How your booking is made
When you request a fare on our website, nothing is booked yet. An agent contacts you, confirms the live price and fare rules with the airline, and issues your ticket only after you approve the final total and pay. Your booking is confirmed when you receive our confirmation email with the airline's confirmation code and e-ticket number.
Fare types
Airlines sell the same seat under different fare types. The fare type decides what you can change later:
- Basic economy: lowest price. Usually no changes or refunds after 24 hours, seats assigned at check-in, and some airlines do not include a full-size carry-on.
- Main or standard economy: changes usually allowed, sometimes with a fee plus any fare difference. Usually non-refundable, but the value may be kept as an airline credit.
- Flexible, premium and business fares: more generous change and refund rules, more baggage and better seats.
Your agent explains your fare's rules before you pay, and they appear in your confirmation.
Names on tickets
Each traveler's name must exactly match the government ID or passport they will travel with, including middle names if shown on the ID. Airlines generally do not allow tickets to be transferred to another person. Small spelling corrections may be possible, sometimes for a fee, if reported quickly. Please check your confirmation as soon as it arrives.
Under the TSA Secure Flight program, airlines must collect each traveler's full name, date of birth and gender. We pass these to the airline for that purpose only.
Schedule changes by the airline
Airlines sometimes change flight times, flight numbers or routings after booking. When we are notified, we contact you with the new schedule. If the change is significant, you are entitled to choose a refund instead, as explained in our Refund & Cancellation Policy. Please also keep an eye on emails and texts from the airline and check flight status before you leave for the airport.
No-shows and using flights in order
- Flights must be used in the order booked. If you miss or skip a flight, the airline usually cancels the rest of your itinerary.
- If you can't make a flight, call us before departure. Cancelling in time may preserve some value as a credit.
- Booking a ticket you don't intend to use in full (for example to get a cheaper fare) breaks most airlines' rules.
Baggage
Allowances and fees are set by each airline and fare. The allowance we show comes from the airline. Fees for extra or overweight bags are paid to the airline. If your itinerary involves more than one airline, the baggage rules of the main airline usually apply. Your agent confirms the bag allowance and any fees before you pay.
Seats, meals and special assistance
Seat selection may be free or charged depending on the fare. Requests such as special meals, wheelchair assistance or traveling with a service animal are passed to the airline; please tell your agent when booking. Airlines provide disability assistance at no charge under the Air Carrier Access Act.
Check-in
Check in with the airline online, usually from 24 hours before departure, and arrive with enough time for security: at least 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights. Airlines may give away the seats of travelers who miss check-in deadlines.
Pricing reminders
- All prices shown on our website include taxes and mandatory fees. Optional extras are additional.
- Fares are not guaranteed until ticketed. Once your ticket is issued, the airline cannot increase its price.
- Prices are in US dollars unless stated otherwise.
